Oats & Vegetable Tikkis, Patties

Happy Valentine's Day ! I am seeing so many Valentine recipes across the blogs, from delicious smoothies to decadent cakes, brownies and other yummy desserts. Initially even I was thinking of doing some kind of dessert or cake, but as my husband is more of a 'starter' person, I thought I'll do these heart shaped tikkis for him. I saw the recipe on the packet of Quick Cooking Oats, and I had wanted to try it out. What better day than today , these tikkis are made with oats, which is so healthy for the heart and it's also loaded with vegetables. These healthy heart shaped tikkis are so perfect for the occasion and my daughter just loved them so much too..

Need To Have

  • Quick Cooking Oats - 1 cup
  • Boiled, Peeled And Mashed Potatoes - 1/2 cup
  • Grated Carrot - 1/4 cup
  • Grated Bottle Gourd, Lauki - 1/4 cup
  • Grated Cauliflower - 1/4 cup
  • Finely Chopped Green Beans - 1/4 cup
  • Kashmiri Red Chilly Powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Amchur Powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Dried Oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • Lemon Juice - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Yogurt/ Curd - 2 tablespoons
  • Chopped Coriander - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt to taste

Method

Take the oats in a mixing bowl, add the grated carrots, bottle gourd, cauliflower, mashed potatoes and chopped beans.

Then add the oregano, amchur powder, red chilly powder, curd, chopped coriander, lemon juice and salt and mix everything together.

Shape these patties into hearts and shallow fry them on both sides, in a little oil, till they turn golden on both sides. Drain the excess oil on a napkin and serve it hot or warm with tomato sauce or ketchup.

Note
I just shaped only a few into hearts, the rest, regular patties.
The mixture might be a little sticky, grease your hands with a little oil and shape the patties, but don't make the mixture too dry, by adding more oats or bread crumbs. I feel that the moisture is required to cook the oats and the raw vegetables in the tikkis.
Cook the patties on medium or medium high heat, so that they don't brown fast on the outside and end up uncooked on the inside.
