Green Peas Vada, this is another recipe that I had tried out with fresh green peas, when they were in season. I had seen vadas with dried green peas, that's soaked and then ground and made into vadas. I wanted to try it out with fresh green peas and I made them pretty much the same way that I do Masal Vadas with chana dal. The vadais turned out crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, you can have them as such or with some ketchup or tomato sauce on the side..
Need To Have
- Fresh Green Peas - 1cup
- Fennel Seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Dried Red Chillies - 2 to 3
- Besan Flour/ Bengal Gram Flour - 4 tablespoons
- Onion - 1 medium, chopped
- Curry Leaves - 10, roughly chopped
- Chopped Coriander Leaves - 2 tablespoons
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep frying
Method
Cook the peas with some water till done, drain and let it to cool down.
Now grind the peas with the fennel seeds and chillies into a coarse paste.
Then add the besan flour, chopped onion, curry leaves, chopped coriander and salt and mix everything well.
Heat some oil, shape the vadas, drop them in the oil and fry them on medium heat till golden brown, remove and drain the excess oil. Serve them warm with some chutney or ketchup.
Note
If you don't have fresh peas, I think we can make the vadas with frozen peas too, as long as they are big sized ones, not the small soft green frozen peas.
They look great! Have never made patties with green peas. Must try it some time.
