Today's post is going to be another healthy and delicious chutney with bottle gourd, Sorakkai Chutney, Bottle Gourd or Lauki Chutney. The first time I tasted it, I was even surprised to know that there was bottle gourd in the chutney, but now when I think about it, we make chutneys with almost all vegetables and greens. Though, basically this chutney is made to go with idlis and dosas, you can still have it with rotis or even have it with some plain rice..

Lauki Akki Roti, Bottle Gourd (Sorakkai) Roti
Bottle Gourd/Lauki/Sorakkai is such a versatile vegetable, we can make so many dishes with this vegetable, starting from curries, koftas, idli, dosa, roti and halwa and I buy it almost every week. Today's dish, Lauki Akki Roti is such an easy dish and the main ingredients are rice flour and bottle gourd. I have given an easy method of making this roti, and they come out really soft, serve them with a spicy chutney for a filling and delicious meal..

Lauki Thepla, Bottle Gourd Flat Breads, Sorakkai Thepla
Lauki is one vegetable that I buy every week or at least once in 10 days. This is another very versatile vegetable, we can use for making curries, soup, sambar, dals, halwas, idlis, dosas and now these theplas and each of the above mentioned dishes taste very good with this vegetable. Now I don't know the difference between theplas and parathas, I read it on some blogs, that parathas are thicker than theplas and usually parathas have stuffed filling, whereas, we mix the vegetables along with flour for theplas. We can make theplas with many vegetables like lauki/bottle gourd, methi, spinach and they go well with any mild dal or even with some pickle and curd..

Bottlegourd In Peanut Sauce
Bottlegourd or Sorakkai in Tamil, is a very bland vegetable, because of that, it can blend itself into any kind of dish, be it sweet or savory, it gets it taste from the other ingredients. Usually I make a kootu or dal or more kuzhambu with it, today for a change I made a peanut gravy with the vegetable. I was not too sure of the finished dish, but it turned out to be really rich and delicious..
