Avarekalu Sooji Rava Adai, Field Beans Adai

Another dish that I tried out using avarekalu/field beans was this Avarekalu Sooji Rava Adai. Again for this Adai also I have used hitikida avarekalu (I have peeled the beans and used ). It's a simple dish, we mix the semolina along with ground avarekalu/field beans and few other ingredients and make this adai. It comes out crispy and soft at the same time and tastes great with some chutney or even with some butter..

Need To Have

  • Fine Rava/Semolina - 1 cup
  • Hitikida Avarekalu/Peeled Field Beans - 2 cups
  • Green Chillies - 2
  • Ginger - 1" piece
  • Onion - 1 big, chopped finely
  • Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Chopped Coriander - 1/2 cup
  • Curry Leaves - 20, chopped
  • Cumin Seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Asafoetida - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1+1/2 teaspoon

Method

Refer here for how to peel the beans. Take the semolina in a bowl. Grind 1 cup of the avarekalu with the green chillies and ginger into a smooth paste, remove.

Then grind the remaining 1 cup of the beans into a coarse paste, remove and add both the pastes to the semolina/rava.

Now add the onion, coconut, coriander, curry leaves, cumin, salt and asafoetida to the semolina. Adding about 1+1/2 cup water make a thick spreadable water.

Heat a pan, pour a ladle of batter, spread it as a thin as possible, drizzle some oil, cover and cook till the bottom turns golden brown. Then flip it and cook the other side till you get golden brown spots on that side also. Remove and serve it with a chutney.

Note
